SAN JOSE, CA – October 9, 2006 – Vault Solutions & Services, announced today that they are now offering phishing / pharming monitoring.

Phishing is the act of sending an e-mail to a user, falsely claiming to be an established legitimate financial institution in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. The e-mail directs the user to visit a web site that appears to be the financial institution’s site (Pharming). Once there, the user is asked to update personal information, such as username, password, credit card, social security and bank account numbers, that the legitimate financial institution already has. The web site however, is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information. By spamming large groups of people, the “phisher” counts on the e-mail being read by a percentage of people who actually are a member of the financial institution.
